Stefan Karadjovo


The village of Stefan Karadjovo is situated in the south-eastern part of Bulgaria at the foot of the Strandja Mountains. The village is near the town of Bourgas (only 70 km) boasting a lot of public amenities and an Airport servicing Internal and External flights and 24 km from the popular town of Elhovo. The village of Stefan Karadjovo belongs to Boliarovo municipality to the Bourgas region.

The Strandja mountains form not only the climate of Stefan Karadjovo but also the climate of south-east Bulgaria. - transcontinental with Mediterranean influence. This area benefits from its mild climate and healthy air suitable for recreation. The Strandja mountains, at the foot of which the village is huddled in , is named after the old denomination of the area - “Strajitsa” which means “border land”, passage between two continents – Asia and Europe. The Strandja mountain has not been just a political boundary for Bulgaria for centuries but it is also a “nature” boundary regarding climate, soils, waters, flora and fauna in the southeast part of Balkan peninsula. The highest peak of the Strandja mountain (1031 m) called “Mahida” is in Turkey.

The village of Stefan Karadjovo has been municipality since 1958 years and a central municipality since – 1934 years.

The villages adjacent which have common boundaries with the village of Stefan Karadjovo are: 'Goliamo Krushevo' /8 km/, 'Denitsa', 'Oman' and 'Kamen vruh'.

Before 340 years ago / when Bulgaria was under Turkish slavery / there is a farm in the past, who was property of two Turkish brothers.

There is an old road located 800 meters in thr north-west from the village, which in the past lad to Carigrad /Istanbul/ - Turkey. On this road the money destined to the Turkish sultan were transferred.

A long time ago the village of Stefan Karadjovo( sprang up 1889 years) was called 'Ichme'. The village took this name as a symbol of gratitude to Stefan Karadja. /Stefan Karadja was born on 11 may 1840 years in the village of Stefan Karadjovo. He is a Bulgarian national hero during the period of the Turkish slavery. In a mark of gratitude to his act the people of the village have built up a monument, in the centre of the square. His home is reinstated and closed for visitors.

The village of Stefan Karadjovo is popular for a sanatorium complex and a medicinal spring. The curative qualities of the water are very like to these of ' Karlovi vari ' - Czech and to 'Kislovodsk' – Russia. Hhydrocarbonate – magnesium mineralized water is recommended for hard-attacks, kidney- urological and stomach-diseases. The most suitable 'gifts' for prevention are the natural factors / an ecologically clear air, a mineral spring, a food – what luxuriant of the village of Stefan Karadjovo /. A mineral spring are luxury in the village. A sanatorium has been built – a medical institute with 240 beds.

The Strandja mountain forms not only the climate of Stefan Karadjovo but also the climate of south-east Bulgaria - transcontinental with Mediterranean influence. This area benefits from its soft climate and healthy air suitable for recreation.

The area features a large number of small but crystal clear rivers and springs.

The life here gives you an opportunity to 'run from the hard skirmish' of trivial round, from the stress of the towns and cities.
